Nova craft’s Prospector 16 is referred to by Canadian paddlers as ‘the workhouse of the Canadian North’ due to the fact that it is one of the most versatile canoes on the market.  This canoe is suited for those long days paddling on rivers loaded with heavy camping and expedition equipment, or simply as a great option for those looking for a stable tandem canoe that all levels of paddlers will appreciate.  

The Prospector 16 has been designed with a shallow arch hull which will ensure an incredibly stable ride and offers a great secondary stability ensuring that you and your equipment stay dry.

Much like the smaller Prospector, the 16 still has a moderate rocker which will make this canoe nimble and dynamic enough to take on small rapids and respond efficiently weather paddling solo or tandem.

The Prospector 16 has all the traditional features you would expect to see on a canoe of this quality, including cane seats, ash carry handles and an expertly designed yoke that has been shaped to fit your shoulders perfectly allowing for maximum comfort for long portages.

Standard Constructions

Tuffstuff

Nova Craft Canoes have introduced a new super lightweight material to the market place in the wake of the discontinuation of Royalex. Nova Craft Tuffstuff canoes are made from a blend of basalt and Innegra fibres.  Basalt fibres are made of melted volcanic basalt rock and Innegra is a fibre consisting mostly of polypropylene. These are then woven together into a cloth and mixed with high impact vinylester resin, the result is that Nova Craft TuffStuff canoes are amongst the strongest and most versatile on the mark today. Nova Craft TuffStuff canoes are a great choice for paddlers looking for a light weight canoe for use on extended flatwater trips and slow moving deep rivers

Tuffstuff Expedition

Nova Craft Tuffstuff Expedition canoes are a heavier duty version of the standard Nova Craft TuffStuff construction. Nova Craft Tuffstuff Expedition canoes are more robust and stiffer offering greater performance and incredible impact resistance. Nova Craft Tuffstuff expedition canoes are an excellent choice for paddlers looking for a light weight boat for extended wilderness trips, flat water sections and deep lower grade moving water.

SP3 - Plastic

SP3 canoe hulls are made by roto-molding three layers of superlinear polyethylene powder. The two outer layers are solid and the middle layer is foam. These canoes are extremely strong and are an excellent choice for general recreational, white water and touring use.

Fibreglass – Fibreglass canoes are made using woven layers for fibreglass cloth laid out over a mould that sets into place. Fibreglass canoes are very light weight and durable and are a great choice for long distance touring or racing paddlers. 

Tuffstuff Expedition

Tuffstuff Expedition is a heavier duty version of the standard TuffStuff construction. Tuffstuff Expedition canoes are more robust and stiffer offering greater performance and incredible impact resistance. Tuffstuff expedition canoes are a great choice for paddlers looking for a light weight boat for use on flat water and sections of flowing moving water.

Aramid Lite

Aramid canoes are the lightest boats in the Nova craft range. They are built by infusing Aramid cloth with a high impact resistant vinylester resin. Aramid canoes have great strength to weight ratio. Aramid canoes are intended for flat water touring, racing and expedition use.

Blue Steel

Blue Steel canoes are made of an aramid and carbon fibre hybrid material. These canoes are light weight like the canoes made of Aramid Lite but are significantly stronger. The carbon fibers add stiffness to the hull resulting in an increase in paddling efficiency. Blue Steel has an inner layer of Innegra creating a high impact resistant vinylester resin makes for a very rugged canoe. Blue Steel canoes are most at home on flatwater and the look of the carbon fiber is stunning.
