The Prospector 17 made it's name as a wilderness expedition boat on the rivers and lakes of candada. If you are looking for a canoe that can be loaded with enough supplies for a long multi day trip, or the perfect boat to get the whole family out on the water then the Prospector 17 would make a great option.

The Prospector 17 has all the classic features that the smaller Prospectors in the series have, including the symmetrical hull which will allow for dynamic tandem and solo paddling. It also has higher sides resulting in a greater volume and load capacity to ensure that you do not sit to low in the water when fully loaded.

Much like the rest of the Prospector range, the shallow arch hull will ensure an incredibly stable ride and ensure that you stay nimble enough to tackle more challenging sections of moving water and that it will handle well in windy conditions.

The Prospector 17 has all the traditional features you would expect to see on a canoe of this quality, including wood webbed seats, ash carry handles and an expertly designed yoke that has been shaped to fit your shoulders perfectly allowing for maximum comfort for long portages.

Standard Options

SP3 - Plastic

SP3 canoe hulls are made by roto-molding three layers of superlinear polyethylene powder. The two outer layers are solid and the middle layer is foam. These canoes are extremely strong and are an excellent choice for general recreational, white water and touring use.

Fibreglass – Fibreglass canoes are made using woven layers for fibreglass cloth laid out over a mould that sets into place. Fibreglass canoes are very light weight and durable and are a great choice for long distance touring or racing paddlers. 

Tuffstuff

Tuffstuff canoes are made from a blend of basalt and Innegra fibres. Basalt fibres are made of melted volcanic basalt rock and Innegra is a fibre consisting mostly of polypropylene. These are woven together into a cloth and mixed with high impact vinylester resin, the result is that TuffStuff canoes are the amongst the strongest and most versatile on the market today. Tuffstuff canoes are a great choice for paddlers looking for a light weight boat for use on flat water and slow moving rivers.

Tuffstuff Expedition

Tuffstuff Expedition is a heavier duty version of the standard TuffStuff construction. Tuffstuff Expadition canoes are more robust and stiffer offering greater performance and incredible impact resistance. Tuffstuff expedition canoes are a great choice for paddlers looking for a light weight boat for use on flat water and sections of rocky moving water.

Aramid Lite

Aramid canoes are the lightest boats in the Novercraft range. They are built by infusing Aramid cloth with a high impact resistant vinylester resin. Aramid canoes have great strength to weight ratio. Aramid canoes are intended for flat water touring, racing and expedition use.

Blue Steel

Blue Steel canoes are made of an aramid and carbon fibre hybrid material. These canoes are light weight like the canoes made of Aramid Lite but are significantly stronger. The carbon fibers add stiffness to the hull resulting in an increase in paddling efficiency. Blue Steel has an inner layer of Innegra creating a high impact resistant vinylester resin makes for a very rugged canoe. Blue Steel canoes are most at home on flatwater and the look of the carbon fiber is stunning.
