Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL
One of the largest sit-on-top kayaks available, that not only gives fantastic primary stability, but it also gives the best legroom for taller/bigger kayakers. The Malibu Two XL can be considered the bigger brother to the popular standard Malibu 2 kayak, but with more volume for a drier ride. Designed with beginners in mind, the 2 XL is reassuringly stable, easy to paddle and great for beginners wanting to learn the basics, but not looking for high performance, or to win any kayak races.
The Malibu 2 XL hull shape has been hugely successful over many years, and Ocean Kayak have stayed true to this when they gave the kayak an upgrade in 2023. Instead of altering the hull, they decided to re-design some of the upper deck features to give more comfort, a better use of space and a new watertight hatch system, that is easily accessible from either seating position and simple to operate, even with cold/wet hands.
The downside to the Malibu Two XL is with the extra volume and plastic material in the build process, the resulting kayak is heavy (compared to most other tandem kayaks). A consideration, especially if it has to be carried over long distances or lifted up high onto a car roof rack system on taller vehicles. However, for those wanting to enjoy time on sheltered waters, without having to worry about capsizes or feeling squashed in, the Malibu 2 XL certainly lives up to its name.
