Old Town Sportsman BigWater PDL 132
As the name suggests, this kayak has been designed specifically for kayak anglers wanting to take on larger water bodies, such as sea lochs, estuaries, or reservoirs. The other good use for the Bigwater 132, if for those who prefer their kayak to carry a heavy load on the water and keep the on-land handling to a minimum. Thanks to its extra length and overall volume, the 132 PDL also offers maximum stability on calm water and is more likely to stay dry if the wind picks up.
Controlling a kayak of this size when it is afloat could take some doing, but the 132 PDL has a responsive rudder, controlled by an easy to reach control lever. The Bigwater 132 can be propelled using a traditional kayak, double-bladed paddle (supplied separately). However, this kayak comes into its own when the award winning PDL propellor driven drive system is put to good use. The PDL system can simply be removed when necessary, and anglers with different length legs can use it comfortably by adjusting the seat trim on the fixed track. To make getting in and out the kayak easier, Old Town have added non-slip foam mats in-front of the seating position. These can also be used to stand up when afloat, for those adventurous enough and wanting to make longer casting opportunities.
With this high carrying capacity, there is huge scope for carrying plenty of kit. Whether it be overnight bivvy equipment, multiple rigs or a heavy-duty trolley. There are also plenty of accessory mounting options already installed onto this kayak, allowing the user to customise the deck-layout and add a fishfinder, action camera, extra rod holders etc.
