Canadian Canoes designed for touring and overnight camping trips. Plenty of capacity for family canoeing trips with the kids
Old Town Penobscot 164
The penobscot range are designed with minimal rocker in their hull design which means they will track very straight and are therefore more suited to long distance touring than more playful designs but will still be nimble enough to take on moving water. The 164 is slightly lighter and easier to handle than the 174 but they share the same traditional Native Amercian design ethos.
Made from Old Town's tough and strong 3 layer plastic, durability is not an issue. The hull shape slips through the water, glides over rocks and accepts being dragged up on gravel shorelines without complaining. It's sturdy enough to forgo a metal framework or keelson.
Outfitted with wood/webbed seats, ash thwarts, ash carrying yoke, black vinyl gunwales, bow and stern decks with grab handles. Supplied with 2 fixed seats, young children can kneel in the centre of the canoe or optional ABS snap in seats can be fitted. This is the Perfect canoe for the family or those planning more extended canoeing trips.
